Autopilot

Being home sometimes is so therapeutic. I was riding my brother's bike around the greenbelts (the sidewalks of our town are through the forest), and all of these old memories came flooding back to me like all the times that my friends and my brother and his friends and I would go to the woods near the one bridge over the little creek and play for hours. They usually tried to catch bugs, and we would walk around and around. It made me wonder why memories are so connected to a place, a sight, a smell... and with all the changes in the world and in my life, I could still pinpoint being 8 years old and riding my bike through that exact same place. I've been running a lot on autopilot the past couple days to be honest. I haven't driven a car in 8 months, I haven't ridden a bike in years, nor have I ever really one of those fancy rode bikes with the thin frames and weird handlebars, I can't remember the last time I dove off a diving board. And yet, somewhere my brain has (thank God!) stored the ability to still do these things... and I can only wish I did them more often.

This is a picture I took while riding my brother's bike, and I find it very uniquely Kingwoodian. There's the river, the greenbelt, and the golf course in the background. Blue skies with a magnificent thunderstorm to come. And trees everywhere. What it can't capture is the sticky heat and the real humidity and the smell of the pine forest I rode through on the way to get there.

2 Days in Paris

While I was in Paris, I actually saw posters for this movie and idiotically brushed it off. Julie Delpy, of Before Sunrise/ Before Sunset, wrote, starred, and scored this movie which is about a mid-30s couple spending two days in Paris after bad holiday in Italy and before returning to New York. She plays Marion an impulsive Parisian born photographer and Adam Goldberg is her boyfriend of 2 years, a neurotic hypochondriac interior designer from New York. This is such a telling story of the two cultures, and what I appreciate most is Delpy's understanding of her own culture. Sometimes the hardest place to look within is yourself. There are many other reasons why I loved this film... so go watch it and let's talk about it!

LuLu Pop <3s KitKat

Walking down the aisle once again in honor of my oldest and dearest friend, Miss Katherine Bostwick. We first met in pre-school when we were 2 years old. Kat and I grew up around the corner from each other and shared everything- barbies, dance classes, clothes. Her dad is the one who dubbed me with my original nickname, LuLu. She is about to wed the lovely JR Woodall this coming November 8th in Napa, and I am so, so excited for everything. Kat made a cute little website for it all which you can check out under my Favorites links list just to the right of this post. It is truly wonderful to have someone you care about find the right person and watch their relationship grow. The Bostwicks are my second family, and Kat (and Libby!) is the sister I never had. I can't wait!!!

harder, better, faster, stronger

So a little something you should know about me is that I like extremes... or rather I like that Americans like extremes. Either way you look at it, being EXTREME is like totally freaking awesome in America. Everything is extreme. And coming from the biggest and best state of them all, I think I know a thing or two about extreme when I see it.

Needless to say I was stoked to find these upon my return:

EXTREMELY PICKLE! Kinda scary, kinda exciting.

Houston, Aug 21- 26th!
Someone get me some bbq and brisket asap.

Also, I kind of really want to go to the rodeo in March next year. Houston's Livestock Show & Rodeo is said to be the world's biggest (of course). Let me know if you're interested, and let's start planning our outfits!

Silly Americans

I can say a million reasons why McCain's ad is absurd, but instead this is funnier:
