73

I actually have come to appreciate not having digital cable and a billion channels in which to drown myself. I've learned to enjoy the basics- Bravo, TBS, Food Network, Telemundo... We've even begun a movie day recently based on TBS... like how to get from RV to Con Air in 4 movies (RV to Hook to Paris, Je T'aime to Con Air in case you were curious). However, a funny thing happened yesterday. We turned on the TV, and there was no TBS! It was CNN Headline News! How were we supposed to watch Dumb and Dumber?!

Now we also have the Disney Channel, Raimundo, the LMN, MNN, and something new and amazing... I don't even know what it's called except Channel 73. Suzie-Q was VJing Reggae's Top 10 and discussing in between videos political issues like security cameras. There were commercials for Golden Krusty and the most spastic juice commercial I've ever seen in my life. A couple hours later they were showing a documentary on life in Jamaica. Alas, 10 hours later Channel 73 became a Chinese station, and TBS had finally returned.

Today I found this video. The girls are dancing a traditional African dance, the Mapouka. Enjoy!

Artichoke Basille's Pizza

While I was away, this little gem opened up around the corner from my apartment. Mo took me last weekend for my first try, and this weekend we brought our friend Chris to check it out. They only have three types- Sicilian, Regular, or the Artichoke (which is my favorite). Smothered in cheese, artichoke, and spinach, each slice is twice the normal size and only $3. The downside is there is absolutely nowhere to sit, and lines are usually long (but worth the wait). Artichoke is located on 328 East 14th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue.

Mo and Chris outside

So what do you do when you wait 45 minutes for the best slice in NYC?!
Have a dance-off of course

Italy!

So my mom and I are taking a trip to Italy! We are going to Naples on the 8th and then up to Lido Adriano (Ravenna) at some point to visit Aurelio where I will stay after my mom goes back. I'm so excited because I've only been to Milan twice and during what I consider model hell- Milan Fashion Week. Most people seem to think Milan is ugly, but I actually like the city itself (minus that ridiculous club Hollywood). Fashion Week there is literally 20 castings a day, all over the city, with 500 girls at all of them, and they expect you to wait 3 hours at each. Not exactly possible. Anyway I am looking forward to seeing more of Italy outside of Milan and work. I hope to eat some amazing pizza in Naples and get a sweet tan in Lido Adriano.

This photo is from my birthday in Milan a couple years ago. I literally arrived 2 days before, had no friends, and my bookers were kind enough to take me out to dinner. Everyone was stoked on celebrating my birthday, and I love people who love to celebrate! It was strangely one of the loneliest days I've had but also surprisingly one of my favorite birthdays.

DJing Robot Rock!

So the last (and first) time I DJed was almost exactly a year ago in Osaka at RockRock. All the CDs were in Japanese, they had no Tom Petty (shocked!), it happened while drunk and mid-McDonald's meal, but I still managed to have a good time thanks to Seiji and the rest of the RockRock crew.

This time I'm DJing at Robot Rock at Le Royale on Friday! I'm stoked. Alex English has been asking me to DJ ever since he found out about the RockRock incident, and it's about time I said yes. So come hang out, and let's dance! Also Crystal Castles is DJing, and they are definitely worth checking out.

See you Friday!

Cleared

It seems as if everyone is talking about R. Kelly's acquittal. A lot of people don't like R. Kelly for many obvious reasons. I am not one of those people. He cracks me up. Anyone who can sing the word "booty" for thirty straight seconds kind of rules. I thought I would dedicate this post to some of my favorite R. Kellyisms.

On R. Kelly:
"Cause hey, I'm black, handsome, I sing, plus I'm rich
and I'm a flirt...
...Let me remind you that I am the king of RnB"
- From "I'm a Flirt"

On how to get pretty girls:
"If you order one bottle, you get one model
If you order more bottles, you get more models"
- From "Make It Rain"

On different social groups:
"Playas gonna play
Ballas gonna ball
Rollas gonna roll"
- From "Feelin On Yo Booty"

On girls vs weed:
"Girl, you got that sex weed
I just want to hit it all the time
Sex so good that it gets me high
Bring that home grown to me
Girl you got that fire weed
Light it up, let me take a puff
Of your sex weed"
- From "Sex Weed"

On girls vs. cars:
"But hey pretty girl I'm feelin you
The way you do the things you do
Remind me of my Lexus coup
Thats why im all up in yo grill...
...I'm bout to take my key and
Stick it in the ignition"
- From "Ignition"

On his general philosophy:
"I don't see nothing wrong
With a little bump n grind"
- From "Bump N Grind"

"Now, now, now
See you got to understand stepping is not just a dance
It's a culture
It's the way we live
It's what we eat, think, and breathe"
- From "Step in the Name of Love"

On six degrees of separation:
* See entire lyrics for all chapters of the hip-hopera "Trapped in the Closet"

On "The Secret":
"If I can see it, I can do it
If I just believe it, there's nothing to it
I believe I can fly
I believe I can touch the sky
I think about it every night and day
Spread my wings and fly away
I believe I can soar
I see me running through that open door
I believe I can fly"
- From "I Believe I Can Fly"

Some singers are gangsters.
Some are drug dealers.
R. Kelly just wants to have sex.
That's cool with me.

Also, I think this trial should be made into a movie.

Moment of Truth

Wow.

I just saw this show for the first time last night. Mark Wahlberg hosts, and guests are asked a series of questions with a chance to win $500,000. Before the show airs, they are asked 50 questions via lie detector. Once live they are asked specific questions, and it is confirmed whether the answer is true or false. 4 questions gets you $10,000, and so on, but if you answer one question wrong you lose everything. You are allowed to bring some close family and friends who have the option to press a button if they don't want to hear an answer to the question, which is then replaced with a new question.

So while only one person is being questioned, it really involves everybody you bring.

I give you Lauren Cleri, the woman who sacrificed her marriage for $100,000... and then... well I'll let you watch the rest.

And in case you were looking for an update,

The show airs Tuesday evenings on Fox.
